ATTACK

“Stell.” Lita popped her head out of her room with her laptop in her hand. She looked around, then opened the bathroom door. “Here’s a job for you.”

Stella had just stepped out of the shower, and she had a towel wrapped around her. “What is it?” she asked.

“Patrick Jefferson again.” Lita fluttered her eyelashes and started smiling. “Someone likes Stella.”

“He was at the party. Xander’s.”

“Oh, so he knows them too?”

“Yeah…I forgot to tell you. His wife was there too.”

“He’s married?”

“Yeah, and she doesn’t know.”

“Oh, well, it’s not like you’re doing anything, is it? You could be like his secretary or something.” Stella laughed. “What?”

“That’s what he said the last time I accompanied him to a party. ‘You’re my secretary tonight,’ he said. So, I guess his real secretary doesn’t like his business meetings and his wife likes them even less.”

“Yeah…well…you’re happy to take this one?”

“Of course. He’s a really nice guy and he’s becoming a regular now, which makes it easier. Where and when?”

Lita turned the screen towards Stella and once she’d read it, she said, “I’ll need heels for that one.” Lita rolled her eyes. Stella raised her eyebrows.

“Yeah. Of course.”

“Thanks, babe. You’re the best.”

“I know.”

Lita went back to her room and Stella looked in the mirror. Thank God. That’ll help cover some of Nan’s bills.
